Our Story

At Blue Ridge Mold Dog (BRMD), we understand the serious—and often devastating—impact mold can have on health and well-being. Our mission is rooted in both professional expertise and deeply personal experience.

Jordan, co-founder of BRMD, is an Integrative Health Practitioner and Board-Certified Holistic Health Practitioner. Throughout years of clinical practice in functional health, she repeatedly identified mycotoxins and unsafe indoor environments as underlying drivers of many chronic health conditions.

That professional insight became personal when one of Jordan and her husband’s children began experiencing concerning, unexplained symptoms. After ruling out multiple potential diagnoses, Jordan tested her son for mycotoxins—toxic compounds produced by mold. The results revealed multiple elevated markers, prompting an urgent search for the source.

Despite air testing and surface swab testing indicating the environment was “safe,” symptoms only improved when her son was removed from the exposure source. With no visible mold present, the environment continued to be deemed safe—despite his worsening condition. This experience revealed the limitations and inconsistencies of many commonly used mold testing methods.

Determined to heal their family and find better answers, we discovered scent discrimination mold detection—an emerging yet highly effective approach within the mold detection industry. Unlike traditional testing methods, scent detection offers exceptional precision, accuracy, speed, and cost-effectiveness by identifying mold where other methods may fail.

We adopted Buck, a Labrador–Hound mix, from our local SPCA and invested over 1,000 hours of specialized training alongside industry pioneer Bill Whitstine. Today, Buck is a highly trained detection dog capable of identifying mold that may otherwise go undetected.

At BRMD, we are proud to bring this advanced detection method to our community. Our goal is to help families and businesses create healthier indoor environments through reliable, thorough inspections—because your health depends on what you can’t always see.

At the end of the day, we’re here to help.
